How to install Ad-Aware Free Antivirus



In this guide we will describe how to install Ad-Aware Free Antivirus in Windows 8.1 OS.
Please visit the official website to download the latest version. Select “Free Download” as shown.





Lavasoft website will recommend to you to download commercial “Ad-Aware Personal Security” version, in our guide we need to download Free Antivirus version.
 





Depending on your location, you will be redirected to one of the regional “mirror” website, select a “Adaware_Installer”, which size near 2 megabytes, it is the online installation setup file.
Then Right Click to the application and select “Run as administrator”
 




Windows 8.1 User Account Control will inform us about “Lavasoft Limited” verified publisher by checking its digital signature, press “Yes” button to continue.
 




Ad-Aware Free Antivirus installation process will be started with “Installing updater”
 





Then, installation process will give you End-User License Agreement to be read.
 



EULA text will be opened in your browser by default.






Now, please select “Express Install” as shown.
 



Next step, we have unchecked “Ad-Aware Security Toolbar” for Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome browser, you could keep the settings by default.





Then, Ad-Aware Free Antivirus installation has “Initializing” step.
 





Sometimes, “Publishing product information” will appear.
 





Progress bar will be changed from beginning to the end during the whole installation process.



When a “Ad-Aware Service” will be initializing, Windows Defender will be turned off by the installer.
 



Then, when the Ad-Aware Free Antivirus program files will be copied to the Windows 8.1 OS, installer will start the “Downloading Definition Files”, which are the antivirus’s databases.






After their download, user will see “Applying Definition Files” message.
 





In the non-stop mode Ad-Aware Free Antivirus installer will start quick scanning computer for viruses.
 





After quick scanning installer will ask the user to restart (Reboot) Windows 8.1 OS.
 



After the restart, please Right Click to the Start button to select “Control Panel”.



Then, you need to select “System and Security” link.
 


Now, we need to run Windows 8.1 Action Center.





In “Security” section “Action Center” will inform us about “Windows Defender and Ad-Aware Antivirus are both turned off”. Please press “View antispyware apps” button as shown.



In the “Installed spyware protection apps” window please select “Ad-Aware Antivirus” string and then press “Turn on…” button.
 


Then, “Action Center” will ask us about app running, we need to check “Don’t show me this again” and press “Yes, I trust the publisher and want to run this app” button.



“Ad-Aware Antivirus” status will be switched to “On”, then press “Close” button.
 


In a few moments Windows 8.1 Action Center will show us the message that the “Ad-Aware Antivirus is turned on”



Now, we need to activate our Ad-Aware Free Antivirus. Please run the application by clicking shortcut on desktop, select “App Management” section, click “Activate link”.



Then, click “Get an activation key here” link.


 

Ad-Aware Free Antivirus will recommend us to upgrade to “Pro” version, for free version please press “Activate” button.



Now, please enter your Name and e-mail, check “I have read and agree to Lavasoft Privacy Policy” and press “Submit” button. The unique activation key will be send to your e-mail.
 


Then your activation key must be entered to the next form. On a final step press “Activate” button.



When your activation will be completed you will see this window.
Congratulations! Ad-Aware Free Antivirus is installed in your Windows 8.1 OS.
