In this guide we will describe how to install AVG
Antivirus Free Edition into Windows 8.1 OS.
Firstly, please go to the AVG official website to
select the version you need to download
AVG website will redirect you to CNET Network download
page. Please press “Download Now” link as shown.
Next, your browser on the CNET website will ask you
save AVG Antivirus Free Web setup file, select “Save”.
After downloading, please use a right click and select
“Run as administrator” in Windows 8.1 Explorer.
Windows 8.1 User Account Control will inform us about “AVG
Technologies” as a verified publisher by checking Digital Signature, press “Yes”
button.
AVG Antivirus Free Web setup will ask you to select
your language and then we need to press “Next” button.
This step, AVG Antivirus Free will show us End User
Software License Agreement, which we must accept to install.
Next step, we need to select version of the AVG
Antivirus product, for Free Edition please check “Basic Protection” and press “Next”
button.
For most users “Express Install” mode is recommended. We
did so also.
Now, AVG Antivirus Web setup started downloading of
the installation files.
When the installation files will be downloaded, they
are installing into your Windows 8.1 OS.
After the successful installation, AVG Antivirus
Installer will ask you to register your product with your e-mail. Please press “Finish”
button.
Then, AVG Antivirus Free Edition will open it’s
Control Panel, and inform us that we need to make some updates, therefore,
updating has been started already.
In a few moments, AVG Antivirus Free Edition will
finish updating process and you will see this message “Protection is up-to-date”.
In the Windows 8.1 taskbar you can see AVG Antivirus
Free Edition icon, so your antivirus program is working now.
Let scan our PC, by clicking “Scan now” button in AVG
Antivirus Control Panel.
In this step we can see PC scanning progress.
When the computer scan will be finished, AVG Antivirus
Free Edition will show this window.
Now, please right click to the “Start” button and
select “System” as shown.
Then, select “Action Center” link.
In “Action Center” Windows 8.1 will show us, that “Virus
Protection”, “Spyware and unwanted software protection” powered now by AVG
Antivirus Free Edition.
